About The Scholarship

The San Nicolas Education Foundation provides an annual, two-tiered scholarship to high school students of the Instituto Publico Carolina Camas Arauz.

Tier 1: Test Preparation Scholarship

To increase the likelihood that students from San Nicolas will pass the national public university entrance exam, SNEF works with the local scholarship committee to select a pool of high-achieving students to receive specialized test prep classes. The scholarship pays for the test prep classes for these students and gives them a competitive edge for passing the national university entrance exam.

Tier 2: University Assistance Scholarship

Of those students who pass the public university entrance exam, this scholarship grants funding annually to the top two qualified students to assist with the costs associated with attending university. The local scholarship committee helps coordinate students’ applications and helps select the two awardees based on educational achievement. This scholarship provides funding for students’ food and transportation costs, school supplies, registration fees, and lost family incomes of students electing to study instead of work.

Local Scholarship Committee

Headed by a local part-time SNEF employee who oversees administration of the scholarships, the local scholarship committee is an on-the-ground group of San Nicolas community members. This committee assists with processing students’ scholarship applications and selecting the most qualified students for the scholarship.
